Living in Harmony with Natural Law: A Blueprint for Freedom and Order

When human beings live in accordance with Natural Law, they attain and sustain freedom, fostering a society rooted in order and harmony. Conversely, when human beings oppose Natural Law, they descend into enslavement, and their society devolves into chaos. Unfortunately, this latter state reflects the world we find ourselves in today.

Consider this: there are over 60 million statutes, regulations, codes, ordinances, bylaws, and other legal constructs regulating society. These so-called “laws” are often incomprehensible to the average citizen. To navigate this labyrinth, one must hire a lawyer—essentially an expensive interpreter of legalese. This complex legal system disproportionately benefits those who can afford to manipulate it, allowing the wealthy to evade justice or weaponize the system for personal gain.

Is this justice? Is this freedom? The answer is a resounding no.

Simplifying the Rulebook

Why not scrap this convoluted legal system and replace it with just two fundamental laws—laws that every person can easily understand and abide by?

  1. DO NO HARM – This law would encompass all criminal acts against a person or their property. If your actions cause harm, you’ve violated the law. Simple and universal.
  2. DO AS YOU SAY YOU’RE GOING TO DO – This law would govern contracts and agreements. If you make a promise, you are bound to fulfill it.

These two principles cut through the noise and establish a framework that emphasizes personal responsibility, fairness, and accountability. They are intuitive and aligned with the natural order, creating a system that is easy to understand and apply.

Revolutionizing the Courts

To complement this simplified legal framework, we must overhaul the judicial system. Here’s a vision for a more just and equitable approach:

  • Eliminate Lawyers in the Courtroom: The legal system should not require expensive intermediaries. Justice should be accessible to everyone, regardless of financial means.
  • Reposition the Judge: Judges should no longer dominate the courtroom from a lofty bench. Instead, they should serve as facilitators, guiding a Jury of Peers by explaining the meaning and application of the two fundamental laws.
  • Empower the Jury: The jury, comprised of everyday citizens, would decide guilt or innocence. This ensures decisions reflect the values and perspectives of the community.
  • Embrace Restorative Justice: Sentencing should prioritize restoration and rehabilitation over punishment. The focus should be on repairing harm, restoring relationships, and reintegrating individuals into society.

Living in Accordance with Nature

The wisdom of Natural Law reminds us that we are governed by unchanging truths, the forces of nature that shape our existence. These forces can be our greatest allies when understood and respected, or our fiercest adversaries when ignored or resisted. By aligning our legal and societal systems with these principles, we harness nature’s power for growth, freedom, and collective well-being.

Imagine a world where laws are few but meaningful, where justice is transparent and accessible, and where society thrives under the guidance of universal truths. This is not a utopian dream but a realistic vision grounded in the principles of Natural Law. It is a call to simplify, to return to basics, and to prioritize humanity over bureaucracy.

By embracing these changes, we can create a society that values order, freedom, and justice for all.

We CAN do better.
