83% of the world’s energy is currently sourced from unsustainable fossil fuels. The annual global energy consumption is estimated to 580 million terajoules. That’s 580 trillion joules or about 13865 tons of oil equivalent. The reliance on fossil fuels is not only a pressing environmental issue but also a profound social and economic challenge. Resulting in polluting the world globally from climate change to early death, health issues and much more.

The ongoing shift from fossil fuels to what we refer to as renewable energy resources is actually a curse instead of a blessing. The technologies anticipated to combat climate change require more raw materials than conventional energy sources, presenting a significant issue that often remains unacknowledged and is frequently brushed aside. For example, by 2040 there could be 36 million electric vehicles on UK roads, but how will we keep them all charged? Switching UK’s 31.5 million petrol and diesel vehicles to electric batteries alone requires an estimated 207,900 tonnes of Cobalt, 264,600 tonnes of lithium carbonate, 7,200 tones of neodymium and dysprosium and 2,2362,500 tonnes of copper. Replacing an estimated 1.4 billion engine vehicles globally requires 40 times the quantities of minerals. These figures only represent electric vehicles and do not yet include data on solar panels, AI, Robotics and other resources…
